Level Petitions
A one-time opportunity for Novice competitors to prove themselves at the Intermediate level. Place in the top 3 and keep the upgrade — permanently.
01 What Is a Level Petition?
A level petition lets Novice competitors temporarily compete at the Intermediate level in a single Jack & Jill competition.
Think of it as a chance to prove you're ready for the next level. If you place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, you keep the upgrade permanently. If not, you return to Novice.
You get one petition per genre (Kizomba and Urban Kiz) — so make it count.
02 How It Works
From request to results — here's what the petition journey looks like.
Request an Upgrade
When viewing a competition event, Novice dancers with at least 5 points can request a temporary upgrade to compete at the Intermediate level.
Upgrade Approved
Your level is updated immediately to Intermediate, allowing you to register for the competition at the higher level.
Compete at Intermediate
Dance in the Intermediate division. Give it your best — your placement will determine whether the upgrade becomes permanent.
Results Decide Your Future
Place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd and your upgrade becomes permanent. Otherwise, you return to Novice and cannot petition again for that genre.
03 Two Possible Outcomes
Your placement in the competition determines what happens to your level.
Top 3 Finish
You keep your Intermediate level permanently. You've proven you belong — no going back.
Outside Top 3
You're returned to Novice and your one-time petition for that genre is used. You'll need to earn your way up through competition points.
04 What You Need to Know
A few important rules to keep in mind before submitting your petition.
05 What's Next
We're working on enhancements to the petition process. Here's what's on the horizon.
Voucher Requirement
Petitioners will need an Intermediate-level competitor to vouch for them before submitting a petition. This adds a layer of community validation — someone who competes at Intermediate must believe you're ready.
Judge Approval
Approved judges may also be able to endorse a petition, giving competitors an alternative path to validation beyond the voucher system.
Additional Petition Attempts
We're exploring increasing the number of petition attempts from one to two per genre. This gives competitors a second chance if their first attempt doesn't go as planned.
