01 Competitions

How roles, levels, and scoring work in Jack & Jill competitions.

Can I compete as both a Lead and a Follow?

Your competition profile is restricted to one role — either Lead or Follow. If you'd like to compete in the other role, you can create a separate account using the same email address with a "+1" suffix. For example, if your email is jane@gmail.com, you can sign up with jane+1@gmail.com to create a second profile. This creates a completely distinct profile with its own competition history and ranking.

Email alias tip: Most email providers (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) treat yourname+1@gmail.com the same as yourname@gmail.com — so all emails still arrive in your main inbox.

Do I need a partner to compete?

No! Jack & Jill is a random partner competition. You register individually and are paired with different dancers throughout the event. It's the perfect way to test your social dancing skills with a variety of partners.

What competition levels are available?

We offer three levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. New competitors start at Novice and progress based on their competition results and accumulated points.

Can I compete at a higher level than my current ranking?

Generally no, however Novice competitors with at least 5 points can submit a Level Petition to temporarily compete at the Intermediate level. If you place in the top 3, the upgrade becomes permanent.

How are competitions scored?

Preliminaries use a Yes / Alternate / No voting system where each dancer is judged individually. Finals use Relative Placement scoring where couples are ranked together by a panel of judges. The majority rule determines final placements.

02 Events & Registration

Finding events, registering, handling payments, and listing your own.

What types of events are on the platform?

Kizomba Foundations supports a wide range of events — festivals, workshops, social nights, bootcamps, and Jack & Jill competitions. Event organizers can list any type of dance event, not just competitions.

How do I register for an event?

Browse the Upcoming Events page to find events near you. Select the passes and competitions you want, then complete checkout. You'll receive a confirmation email with your registration details.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe. Some event organizers may also offer manual payment options (cash, Zelle, Venmo, etc.) — check the specific event page for available methods.

What are manual payments?

Manual payments let event organizers accept payments outside of Stripe — such as cash, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, or bank transfers. When an event supports manual payments, you'll see the organizer's payment instructions during checkout. You pay the organizer directly and they confirm your registration manually.

Can I get a refund?

Refund policies are set by each individual event organizer. Check the event page for the specific refund policy, or contact the organizer directly through the event page.

How do I list my own event?

Any registered user can submit an event. Go to the Submit Event page, fill out the event details, set up your passes and pricing, and publish. You'll need a Stripe Connect account to accept card payments, or you can enable manual payments to accept cash and other methods.

03 Instructors

Booking lessons, becoming an instructor, and managing your schedule.

How do I book a private lesson?

Browse the Instructors page to find teachers by location, genre, or lesson type. Select a service from their profile, pick an available time slot, and submit your booking request. The instructor will review and approve your request.

How do I become a listed instructor?

Any registered user can set up an instructor profile from the Instructor Settings page. Create your teaching bio, add your services with pricing, set your availability, and publish your profile to start receiving bookings.

What lesson types are available?

Instructors can offer private lessons, group classes, online sessions, package bundles, and event venue lessons. Each service has its own pricing, duration, and location type.

Can I cancel or reschedule a booking?

After a booking is approved, there is a 24-hour grace period where you can cancel for free. You can also submit a reschedule request to change the date or time, which the instructor will need to approve.

How does instructor availability work?

Instructors set weekly recurring schedules with specific time slots. They can also create date-specific schedules for festivals or travel, block off unavailable dates, and connect Google Calendar to automatically avoid conflicts.

Can I leave a review for my instructor?

Yes! After your lesson is marked as completed, you can rate your instructor and leave a written review. Reviews help other students find great teachers.

04 Your Profile & Account

Setting up your profile and managing your account.

How do I set up my competition profile?

After signing up, head to your Profile page and complete your dancer profile. You'll need to select your competition role (Lead or Follow) — this choice is permanent for that account and determines which role you compete as in all Jack & Jill competitions.

Can I change my display name or photo?

Yes! You can update your display name, profile photo, and other personal details from your Account settings page at any time.

Where can I see my event tickets?

All your purchased passes and tickets are available under your Profile in the Tickets section. You can view details, QR codes, and registration status for every event you've signed up for.
