How it Works

As part of Kizomba Foundations's competition system, we've innovated a fair and exciting scoring system for all of our members. The system revolves around our leaderboard, which showcases top dancers based on their accumulated points.

Dancers earn points by placing in competitions - but not all competitions are created equal. Depending on the size of the event, we categorize competitions into three tiers:

  • Tier 1: Events with 5-15 participants per role
  • Tier 2: Events with 16-39 participants per role
  • Tier 3: Events with 40+ participants per role

Points are allocated differently per tier and role, for each level (novice, intermediate, advanced).

For example, if there are 5 leads and 15 follows in the beginner level, the follows would gain tier 2 points whereas leads will get tier 1 points.

Base points for each tier are as follows:

  • Tier 1: 1st place (5 points), 2nd place (3 points), 3rd place (1 point)
  • Tier 2: 1st place (10 points), 2nd place (6 points), 3rd place (4 points), finalists (1 points)
  • Tier 3: 1st place (15 points), 2nd place (10 points), 3rd place (6 points), finalists (2 points)

The tier system also rewards finalists from medium and large events. This ensures that dancers in larger, more competitive events still receive recognition for their hard work.

Moreover, your accumulated points contribute towards your overall competition level:

  • Beginner: 0 - 20 novice points
  • Intermediate: 0 - 30 intermediate points
  • Advanced: 30+ intermediate points

With our scoring system, you know exactly where you stand. You can track your progress, aim for new goals, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment with every dance. No auditions, no guesswork - just you, the dance floor, and the thrill of competition.

For Dancers:

How Your Scores Are Tracked

  1. After receiving your member ID, you can participate in any official competition listed on Kizomba Foundations.
  2. Event organizers will submit the points for the top three winners of each level. If you win, these points will be added to your total score.
  3. Your total score will determine your rank on the leaderboard, as well as your dancing level (novice, intermediate, advanced).
  4. You can check your total score and leaderboard rank by logging into your account and navigating to your profile page or the leaderboard for each genre page.
  5. Remember, the more competitions you win, the higher your total score will be!

What Are The Benefits

  1. Joining Kizomba Foundations's competition system eliminates the need for traditional level auditions. Your rank within our system automatically determines your competition level, allowing you to compete against others at the same skill level. No more guessing, no more auditions - just pure dance competition at your level.
  2. Kizomba Foundations's competition system is the only system that allows you to compete in multiple genres. You can compete in Kizomba and UrbanKiz, and your scores will be tracked separately for each genre.
  3. Kizomba Foundations's competition system allows you to compete in multiple countries. You can compete in any country that has an official competition listed on Kizomba Foundations, and your scores will be tracked should you win.
